I hope Abzal Rakimgaliev has sent a thank you card to Denis Ten. It's because of Ten's results at the 2009 and 2013 World Championships that Abzal has gotten to go to two Olympic Games.

Carmen may be an old standby but it never fails to get the crowd clapping
-
The crowd here really hasn't been able to get into it yet. The skaters in the first flight haven't executed clean programs, despite an encouraging audience. Canada's Kevin Reynolds will be the final skater in the second flight, which will start after the current skater, Romanenkov for Estonia.
-
Tough skate for Romanenkov. Struggling with most of his jumps.
-
-
It's been a tough season for Denis Ten, the 2013 world silver medallist. Hope he can turn it around here.
-
Reynolds also said that years of landing quads has taken its toll on him, but pointed to Plushenko as possible inspiration to keep going. He probably didn't mean last night's Plushenko.

-
A couple of minor bobbles towards the end but that was a very good skate for Denis. He looks relieved.
-
wobbly landing on the triple flip, but he hangs on.

More than 20 points higher than his previous season best in the free skate. Well done Denis.

The double salchow hurt and the mistake on the 2 axel was another 2 points. The sloppy landings also affected the P/E mark as that was in the 8s and is usually in the 9s.

Last man of the night is on the ice - Jason Brown of the United States. He had an electric skate at US Nationals in Boston.
