McMorris wins our first medal, women's hockey wins 5-0 & Tessa and Scott win my heart all over again. I love the Olympics!!! #wearewinterby Marianna via twitter 2/8/2014 3:58:30 PM

Taking a closer look at the scoresheet, Tessa and Scott had the same base value in their technical elements as Davis and White, but the Americans earned higher Grades of Execution for those elements, especially on the twizzles.
-
The Ladies Short Program portion of the team competition is up next. Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond skates first!
-

First group of ladies on the ice now, including the very first athlete, Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond.
-
I spoke to Kaetlyn back in the fall, her favourite place in Canada? Marystown, NFLD. Her hometown. Shout out to Newf
oundland! -
I just spoke to Tessa, "I think the skate was actually pretty strong, of course the twizzle wasn't ideal. I thought our approach was pretty bang-on."
-
Watching Kaetlyn Osmond on CBC right now.by FoundinNL via twitter 2/8/2014 4:15:29 PM

Let's go, Katelyn Osmond! :)by brinamachado via twitter 2/8/2014 4:15:41 PM
-
Kaetlyn is the first ever female Winter Olympian from Newfoundland. Shout out to my home province!
-
And Scott too, he talked about the loud cheer for the Russia couple, "Our hearts go out to the Russians, we lived that back in Vancouver, to see it here, we're so happy for them," he said, and then jokes, "I don't know about you guys but it felt like I was at a hockey game."
-
Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond stays on the ice after warm-up. Might as well get it over with first! One last word from coach Walia and she's off.
-
-
Hahaha Paula Nichols, the second-most famous Newfoundlander here in Sochi?
-
Osmond is impressing me with her ability to pull this together. #Sochi2014by skating102 via twitter 2/8/2014 4:20:01 PM

She's an absolute natural. Kaetlyn Osmond finishes to big applause.
-
What a little phenom!! At just 15 she has grace and talent “@USFigureSkating : Lipnitskaya of Russia is on the ice, huge roar as expected.”by Helena Oka-loca via twitter 2/8/2014 5:15:42 PM
-
Lipnitskaya. Just phenomenal!by Jkerrbear via twitter 2/8/2014 5:16:14 PM
-
72.90 for Lipnitskaya, that will move her into first place. This is a blow to Canada's gold medal hopes. She's now secured at least 2 pts difference over Canada.
-
Next is Japan's Mao Asada. Silver medallist from Vancouver 2010.
-
She just fell on a jump. The Russian crowd clapped.
-
Asado finishes, she's disappointed. But bows graciously. This score will be interesting, surely not as good as Lipnitskaya.
-
Mao Asada falls wonder where she places, Kaetlyn flawless performance?by almajwilson70 via twitter 2/8/2014 5:21:46 PM

It's been a long time since I've seen Mao Asada skate. Gorgeous skater. Pity she fell on her first jumping pass #Sochi2014 #Olympics2014by Shannon Wong via twitter 2/8/2014 5:21:55 PM
-
Just an update: Canada's Osmond 3rd, USA's Wagner 2nd, Russia's Lipnitskaya 1st
-
Mao Asado scores 64.07, moves into second. Pushes Kaetlyn Osmond down to 4th.
-

#Sochi2014 : #FigureSkating : Team Ladies' Short Program: Mao ASADA (JPN) with a score of 64.07 that sends her 2nd. Graceful.by Sochi 2014 Updates via twitter 2/8/2014 5:23:35 PM

One more skater to go, and, it's her birthday. 27-year-old Carolina Kostner is up.
-
2012 World Champion, Carolina Kostner is on the ice.
-
And it's 70.84 for Italy's Kostner, the final skater.
-
-
That means Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond is 5th in the ladies team event. And Canada unofficially drops to second with 32 pts, Russia first with 37. Lipnitskaya was huge tonight.
-
That's all for now. Time to take a break. The Team Pairs Free Skating begins at 1:05 pm ET / 10:05 am PT. See you then! I'm going to get some dinner. I'll see what I can find in the Iceberg.
